The best place to get a root beer float on a 98 degree day in summer was the ol' reliable Dog & Suds on Sibley Blvd. in Harvey. One of my friends, Gayle Skowronski, was a 'carhop' there and it was  fun to go and visit her when she was working, drink my root beer and joke around. At night, the Dog & Suds of choice was the one in Dolton. My boyfriend was from Dolton and drove a red convertible at the time. The Dolton Suds seemed to attract more cool cars and  'hotrods' at night so it was a lot of fun to see everyone's ride! I also remember  A.&W.  Drive- in.
O.K., I must be getting old because I can't remember where that one was located. Can somebody out there help  refresh my memory? Does anyone else remember these places with a smile?

The A&W in my neighborhood was on 159th street, just east of Halsted, in Harvey.  Were there other ones in Riverdale/Dolton?

 A&W  had the BEST root beer floats ! I remember that A&W,too.

And in Riverdale, at 144th St. and Indiana Ave., there was B&W's Rootbeer Stand where it was replaced by a dry cleaners and Andy's Hot Dogs.

I worked at the Dog n Suds, in Harvey, for two seasons.  It was my first job.  When I worked there, the car hops didn't get paid a wage.  We worked for tips only.  It really was a fun place to work, but after I left, it was about ten years before I'ld drink root beer again!!!

Got married in 1973 and after the I DO's were all done and said my new hubby and I headed with bridal party in tow to the Dog 'N Suds over by T'ridge.  It was great!
