Brunetti's Pizza
Posted Wednesday, May 4, 2011 09:18 AM

O.K., I must be hungry or something, because all my memories seem to be connected to food! One of my best memories was Brunetti's Pizza located on Halsted and the Little Cal. River between Harvey and Riverdale. Flo, the owner, was one of the most wonderful human beings I have ever known! She might have talked "tough"; but she had a warm spot in her heart for every teenager that ever worked or just hung out there. And, I have NEVER tasted another pizza quite like hers  during my entire life!

Hate to admit it, but I don't ever remember trying Brunetti's Pizza.  The one I do remember was the House of Pizza at 158th & Halsted.  Sorry to say that it closed after the owner (Mr. Bytnar??) was shot while delivering a pizza one night:(

Oh my gosh, I lived about a block away from Brunetti's  and my family would get a large, sausage pizza from there every Sunday night.  The crust was really thin, like a cracker, the pizza was cut into small, odd-shaped pieces (not the standard 8, wedge-shaped slices), and the taste was wonderful.  It still is the pizza that I compare every other pizza to.  Ah, the memories of childhood!

Ah yes, the good pizza from hometown.  Brunettis and Pabst Bllue Ribbon, yum.  When we moved to Michigan  (1977) we could not believe how awful the pizza was !  And what was with those big wedges?  We got very excited when we found a place in Kalamazoo, about 25 miles from us, that made pizza like they do in Chicago and they also cut it into squares !!!  Wow, we have made the trip there many times over the years for good pizza like we grew up with.  Worth the trip.  Amazing what you miss when you move away.

Yes, it was the best pizza. My sisters and most of block worked there. Flo was a sweetheart and treated all of them so well.
