Windmill in Kindergarten classroom

What sticks out in my memory was the oversized windmill in the Kindergarten classroom.  It had moving windmill blades operated by a light switch, a ceramic tile moat, and a staircase that went to an upstairs play apartment equiped with kid size furniture, and play kitchen with play appliances.  I really thought this was the norm to have in every school.  What was amazing was the play house period done almost daily.  The instructor Mrs. Striebe would pick a boy and girl to go up to this playhouse to clean and "cook". Girls loved going up there to play with the dolls and the guys loved to go up there to look onto the classroom thru the windows and "spy" on the class. I can't picture this in todays world.  My Mom went to Washington and remembers that in her day the moat had fish that were kept on display.  I'd love to know the incident that brought that to an end!
